SCREENING  |  CONJUGAISON DU DÉSIR ~ VAVA DUDU, DOCUMENTARY

DIRECTED by ILENIA AROSIO

A portrait of the Parisian artist Vava Dudu, crosses the practice of drawing and writing, on every surface and consistency, from paper, to fabric to sound and performance with the electro-zouk group La Chatte formed together with Stéphane Argillet/Stereovoid & Nicolas Jorio/Nikolu, for the cult label Tsunami-Addiction [2010].

A foray into the world of Vava through the meticulous observation of the microcosm of her studio, with infinite references, a collection of records that sound like a Manifesto, the evocation of three-headed creatures, the continuous echo of the blue color that brings the strength of the Antillean sea, and the pillar around which this vortex rotates, the first anthology of poems created by Vava during a recent residency at the BOZAR in Brussels, with the contribution of the musician Geo Wyeth and the writer/curator Alberto García Castillo, published by Tabloid Press, Berlin, and printed in Risograph by the We Make It lab. Very young assistant to Jean Paul Gaultier, Vava won the prestigious ANDAM French Fashion Award with Fabrice Lorraine [2001], collaborating among others with Peaches, Bjork, Neneh Cherry, Rihanna, with some of her pieces in the collection of the Galliera Museum and Lafayette Anticipations.

Despite this, an outsider's path that allows Vava to move outside any systems to continue to give voice and stretch to her desire for creation. The video, directed by the photographer Ilenia Arosio, will be available for free from 24 November to 15 December streaming on Afterimage, with an introduction write by the French critic Elisabeth Lebovici.

Afterimage is a new online platform, launched by Spazio Maiocchi in Spring 2020, dedicated to moving image works, aiming to carve out a space for meaningful and immersive viewing, who have an urgency to emerge. LISTEN HERE

Did you know that the lower surface of a leaf is called 'page' in italian botany? In an interlaced and intersectional multiverse, in which each part affects the ecosystem, such as the industrial production of paper that can count on a handed down knowledge, on extremely technological process, innovative recycling operations or alternative methodologies, we have invited Living Sounds to make you to feel literally surrounded by a dense forest of plants to shorten that distance between us, because the borders are less and less defined and what emerges is a single form that is declined in different voices. The 24/7 live audio on Living Sounds are a mix of dozens of handmade microphones that have been recording for years in the woods and swamps of a recovering wetland in Plymouth, Massachusetts, called Tidmarsh. With Living Sounds, we invite you in a real live restoration symphony, page after page...

WORKSHOP  |  LA LETTERA NEUTRƏ INCLUSIVE TYPOGRAPHY EXPERIMENTS

WORKSHOP by Collletttivo

LECTURE  |  NINA PAIM [ Futuress, Feminist Findings] BaseAND LORAINE FURTER

[Badass Libre Fonts, Bye Bye Binary] Bruxelles

In collaboration with Istituto Svizzero in the contest of the The Most Beautiful Swiss Books exhibition, we present the Inclusive Typography Experiments Workshop held by the open-source foundry Collletttivo with two special remote Lectures by Nina Paim and Loraine Furter.

⨳ Nina Paim, Brazilian curator and design researcher based in Basel, co-founder of Futuress, a platform for design politics. The lecture will have as its focus Feminist Findings the collective research of twenty-six womxn and non-binary people on the history of feminist publishing taking the form of an exhibition [host at A—Z gallery, Berlin, 2020] and accompanying zine. The group take the acronym L.i.P. Collective – Liberation in Print – formed during the recent lock-down period and its research showcases stories around twentieth century publications from across the world, including Agenda, Al-Raida, Aspekt, Bridges, Carnets des Nanas Beurs, Chrysalis, Common Lives/Lesbian Lives, Courage, Di Froy, DYKE A Quarterly, Distaff, Emanzipation, Ewa, Froyen Shtim, Gidra,  Heresies, Leïla, Manushi, Nova, Phoenix Rising, Sinister Wisdom, Sorcières, Soviet Women, and Spare Rib. The project was curated and edited by Futuress. Nina work usually involves many others and revolves around notions of directing, supporting, and collaborating. She was born in Nova Friburgo 168 years after Swiss settler-colonialists displaced the indigenous tribes of the puris, coroados, and guarus. Love and fate brought her to Basel, where she seeks to transmute her daily immigrant anger into care practices for making space.

She curated the exhibition Taking a Line for a Walk at the 2014 Brno Design Biennial and co-curated Department of Non-Binaries at the 2018 Fikra Design Biennial. She was a program coordinator for the 2018 Swiss Design Network conference Beyond Change. She’s a two-time recipient of the Swiss Design Award.

Loraine Furter is a graphic designer based in Brussels, nourishing Armenian, Spanish, French & Swiss roots, specializing in hybrid publishing, research, and intersectional feminist projects. She launched in 2018 the Badass Libre Fonts by Womxn, a free, feminist, open-source type collection, and she is part of the collective Bye Bye Binary and the L.i.P. Collective - The Liberation in Print Collective, whose research gave rise to the exhibition and the publication Feminist Findings, curated and edited by Futuress  |  →  16 & 23 JAN  10am - 6pm  |  remote version

WORKSHOP  |  THE RISO CLUB 20 with EILEAN-LUND & PIERRICK BREGEON Lausanne CH

For the first time the workshop, curated by the Swiss designer Eilean Friis-Lund with Pierrick Brégeon, will be held remotely together with the 20 participants selected on Open–Call from portfolio. A series of phases will be planned for develop together a project based on a structure specifically thought to reveal tricks ’n’ tips, to handle the technique both during the first phases of composition and the second ones ruled by printing and followed by the group in live streaming. Risograph is an eco-friendly printing method into which the chromatic attitude of silk printing meets the fast timing of photocopy reproduction and the softness of inkjet prints. It’s an awesome and professional – even if cheap – solution for little editions, due to its range of possibilities going from uniform tones to crazy analog patterns. This workshop edition renews the collaboration with the Archive Primo Moroni – 'small but still impressive archive of memories, a relevant fragment of social and politic life between Sixties and Seventies, also glowing with the presence of many materials of the movements in the Eighties, shaped by cultures of the metropolitan ghetto' [P.Moroni] – a center of documentation existing since 1988 as an evolution of Calusca City Lights library, founded in Milano by Primo and Sabina Miccoli and moved into C.S.O.A. Cox18 in 1992, where the Archive is currently hosted. THE RISO CLUB 20 is coordinated by artist/photographer Elena Radice and supported in the printing practice by ATTO, a studio of design and communication  |  →  remote version

FREE DOWNLOAD  |  UNKNOWN TYPEFACE by LUKAS HAIDER & ALEXANDER RAFFL Wien

To express the peculiar mutation that SPRINT has made for this edition -characterized by the difficulties created by the global pandemic - we have found an ally in the free display typeface UNKNOWN designed by Lukas Haider & Alexander Raffl. It consists of 3 styles: RND, PX and MX. Additional alternates can easily be adapted using upper or lowercase characters. Although the roots of the typeface are derived from a linear grid-system, the overall appearance is still organic through the variation of the individual characters. A vast set of glyphs makes it very versatile. There are no restrictions regarding the usage of the font. However Lukas and Alexander are happy to receive usage samples or tag the type #unknowntype
